During this period of self-isolation, I've found myself with a fair amount of extra time on my hands and have been doing my best to use it productively. I've been working from home, watching way too much television, and attempting to clear and perfect my skin. (2 out of 3 isn't bad, right?)
I've been going makeup free most days to give my skin a chance to breathe and refresh with the help of some of my favorite products.
Truthfully, my love for skincare truly knows no bounds. I have a closet full of bottles, jars, and tubs of creams, serums, cleansers...you name it. I've tried, loved, and hated brands of all prices and reputations. But, I've always tried to remember that what works for one person, may not always work for me.
Skincare, like fragrance, is extremely personal. It's not "one-size-fits-all", so it's important to do your research and look for products and brands that are backed up by results. One brand that I've been able to count on is Murad. Their skincare line is dermatologist-founded and extremely vast! But, don't worry about being overwhelmed. You can take a skin quiz or shop by concern (dryness, wrinkles, acne, etc.) to make it simple!
Because this brand has been SUCH a game-changer for my skin, I wanted to take the time to share my top 5 favorite Murad products with you! (This sounds sponsored...I swear it's not!)
Let's dive in! To make this easy, here are the products in the order that I use them in my skincare routine. And, if you want to read more about the science behind them, please click on the links!
To start with, this cleanser is one of the ONLY cleansers that can remove my waterproof mascara. When it is first released from the pump, it is in gel form. But, as you massage it onto your skin, it changes into an oil! I find that I get my best, deepest-clean when I squirt this cleanser onto my electric face brush. And, because it is a part of the Hydration line, it's extremely moisturizing!
To be honest, when I first discovered this product, I was a little bit nervous. "Acid" and "Peel" are two words that don't sound too skin-friendly. But, I've been struggling with a lot of texture in the form of tiny bumps on my jawline and am so thankful that I gave this a shot. After cleansing, I shake this product up and dab a bit of it onto a Glossier Cotton Round. Then, I simply swipe it over my face and neck! My skin is truly never more even than when I use this on a consistent basis.
Thankfully, I haven't had too many severe breakouts since high school. But, one issue I do have is scarring. My body has this awesome tradition where - a week before my period - I'll get one or two super painful, big, zits. They only last a week, but I ALWAYS end up picking at them. And, unfortunately, that's resulted in a lot of scarring on my chin and forehead. This product is my scar-saving grace. I just tap it onto my scars before bed and it gradually helps change the look and feel and makes me much more comfortable on no-makeup days.
This is typically the last step in my PM skincare routine. I treat this product like an overnight mask and smooth it over my skin before crawling into bed! I have a TERRIBLE time getting to sleep without the assistance of Zzzquil (anyone have any suggestions?!) and this helps my skin to at least look well-rested. It's also a part of the Hydration line, so it's very comfortable to sleep in and helps me to wake up moisturized!
While I wouldn't consider this a part of my daily "skincare" routine, I would definitely say that it is an essential part of my day. I was extremely pleased to discover this product as it works as a primer AND a makeup setting spray. And I love to use it as both! Typically, I will spray it onto my face before my makeup and tap it in gently with my fingers. Then, once my face is sufficiently beat, I will set my powders by spraying this and tapping it in with a damp beauty blender. It works wonders and keeps everything in place!
And that's it! I am excited to keep exploring Murad and all of their offerings. If you try any of these or have any products that you think I would love, please let me know! I'd love to hear from you.
